SMALL KITCHEN STORAGE IDEAS I USED IN MY SPACE

My Magnet kitchen designer included some clever storage ideas to make the most of my small space. Here are the highlights

(This post has been created in collaboration with Magnet Kitchens)

I’ve been living with my new kitchen for a few months now, which means I’ve really got to grips with how I use it. That’s meant re-imagining what I keep where so that when it comes to cooking for example, everything is in a really practical place.

In the original design, for example, I asked my Magnet designer Felicity to leave an integrated bin out of the kitchen, as I wanted more storage space, but after realising I didn’t have room for a freestanding bin in the space once we were living in it, we asked our Magnet installer to swap out some other storage to include one. Likewise, I’ve moved where I store certain food and utensils so that it makes more sense to grab when using the range cooker.

Though the layout didn’t change a lot in my kitchen renovation, the storage that Felicity included really transformed how much I can store, and how easy everything is to access. Here’s a breakdown of some of my favourite storage elements.

Smart interior food storage

I first saw this smart interior food drawer insert idea on a photoshoot with Magnet, and instantly adored it. It makes a drawer a great place to store anything perishable that doesn’t need to go in the fridge, while ensuring it lasts as long as possible, and keeps your drawers fresh and undamaged if something does go off. I’m using it for storing my fresh vegetables and some other sundries, but it’s also totally removable, so if I change my mind in the future, it can be converted back to a standard pan drawer.

Countertop pantry

Felicity really pulled the kitchen design out of the bag by introducing this half size pantry into the design using Magnet’s Soho slab range. I was determined to not have wall-hung units, so this was a great compromise to ensure it had enough space for storage. It’s become my coffee station, and a place to store lots of jars of dried stuff too. For sure, one of my favourite parts of the whole kitchen.

Pull and swing corner units

Yes, we had corner cabinets in this kitchen before, but the extent of the storage was basically getting onto the floor, climbing into the cupboard and seeing what you could find in the dark. We now have these amazing pull and swing corner units that are so useful and provide lots of storage. This one’s for more food, and in the other corner, we have one that we store pans, trays and excess plates and bowls.

I also forgot to mention that each cabinet has a rechargeable strip light in it, so no more rooting around trying to use my phone torch as a light at the back of the cupboards.

Oak cutlery inserts

It really is all about the details, and I absolutely love that I now have a proper cutlery drawer. This one’s the oak cutlery drawer insert, and just really helps to organise this drawer so much better. The other drawers have integrated textured mats too, which stop things sliding around in there when you close them. I’ve got one for utensils and another for my spice collection which I’ve now decanted into small jars.
