SPENDING A NIGHT AT THE 'HOUSEPLANT HOTEL'

[I was invited to stay at this hotel as a press trip, but with no obligation to cover it on the blog or social media]

I’ve been known to go a little bit overboard with houseplants in my time - check out my living plant wall if you haven’t already - so when I saw that thejoyofplants.co.uk was creating the UK’s first ‘house plant hotel suites’ at the Leman Locke in London, it sounded right up my street.

I headed along for a night’s stay in the Tranquil Suite, which was designed by the lovely Michael Perry AKA Mr Plant Geek. Basically each of the rooms was created to extol a key benefit of having plants in your home, and his design was about creating an oasis of calm.

Let’s start with the living room - it was absolutely packed with tropical plants. Think loads of species of Monstera plants and bromeliads adding a bit of colour - you can literally hardly move for them. Also please note the rug made from actual moss on the middle of the floor - definitely not the most practical and hardwearing of floor coverings, but a bit of fun nonetheless. There was some great reading material around the space too - books about plants, meditation and healthy cooking, which really added to the vibe.

The bathroom was one of the unique ideas to Michael’s room - the all had been fitted with plant holders on one side and there was a living wall on the other. In the shower, air plants (which draw moisture from the air) hung, and you could take a eucalyptus-infused shower (is this too boujie a thing to do when guests come to stay?)

The bedroom was home to most of the air-purifying plants, and I loved how they’d made use of all the hanging space to really just fill it with as many plants as possible.

And listen, you may be asking yourself is all this actually practical? Well no, of course not. The three rooms are a temporary installment, so you can only stay in them from now until November. I know how much hard work goes into maintaining one plant wall, so the extra upkeep needed on these suites would be insane!

The hotel itself is a really cool space though, filled with contemporary design ideas that I loved, so if you’re looking for somewhere for an overnight stay in London, it’s worth a look up even if you’re not in a plant room! The rooms are like little apartments and have a mini kitchen in too, which is always nice.

So what do you think? Would you pay to stay in a plant hotel suite? If you do fancy spending the night in one of these suites you can book your stay by emailing thejoyofplants@lockeliving.com. The rooms will be available for bookings until November 10th, and reservations for the three rooms made directly via the email will automatically receive a 15% discount!
